SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THUMBS DOWN ON BIDEN – FROM BIZPACREVIEW:   A new poll conducted by Fox News was released this Sunday, which indicates that the percentage of respondents who feel the country is more united under President Joe Biden has declined. It has fallen to the point where those who think the country is less united are now in the majority, according to the poll.  The numbers show a huge discrepancy between the campaign rhetoric and public perception. A whopping 54 percent feel the country is less united since Biden took office, while only 37 percent felt it was more united.  The poll also measured perceptions about Biden in terms of empathy and caring as a leader. Only 51 percent think Biden “cares about people like you,” which is down from last year, just before the election (October of 2020), where the same question prompted 56 percent agreement. While Democrats and Republicans continued to feel mostly the same, the 5 percent drop was from crucial voters who identify as Independent, where the answer shifted 15 percent down from 2020.  There appeared to be some lack of confidence in Biden’s mental faculties among respondents as well. Only 49 percent believe Biden is mentally sound to serve as president, though it should be noted that apparently, the same amount felt that way in 2020. Only 45 percent described Biden as a strong leader, which is down from 49 percent last year.  As far as managing the government, and overall competence in general, Biden’s administration still enjoys a small lead, with 51 percent agreeing with the statement “has [the] Biden administration been competent and effective in managing government?” The percentage of those polled who disagreed was 45. There is a similar even split on the economy, with 50 percent in approval versus 49 percent disapproval.  The president has only been in office eight months, and his support is starting to crumble.  And there doesn't appear to be much opportunity in the near future to turn the drop around.  But our side must avoid overconfidence, and fight as if we're 20 points behind.  The 2022 elections are 14 months away.

YOU MEAN THEY HAVE ELECTIONS? – OVERNIGHT:  The people of Canada go to a national election Monday.  The election was called by Prime Minister Justin ("he looks like a kid") Trudeau, at a time when a liberal victory looked certain.  But things have changed, and the election results are in doubt.  We hope for an upset conservative victory.  From Global News: 

On Monday morning, millions of Canadians will begin flocking to their nearest polling station to cast their votes.

But with hours left before Election Day, a new poll finds Liberals and Conservatives locked in a dead heat with the latter inching ahead by just one per cent in the national popular vote.

An Ipsos poll of 2,359 Canadians conducted exclusively for Global News showed Conservatives on track to garner 32 per cent of the popular vote, while Liberals went down a point in the polls — projected to receive 31 per cent of the vote.

Darrell Bricker, Ipsos Global Affairs CEO, told Global News that this one per cent would mean a statistical tie for the two parties and another minority government for the Liberals — reminiscent of the results from the 2019 election.

“However, this time around, the Conservatives are winning by less in the prairies and are being helped by the NDP, who are pulling votes from the Liberals in Ontario,” the Ipsos polling read.
“This, combined with a base that seems enthusiastic to vote for O’Toole and his party, could make for a very long night on Monday as the nation waits for results from close races in British Columbia.”

Meanwhile, the New Democrats received 21 per cent in the survey, while the Bloc Quebecois secured seven per cent and the Green Party earned three per cent. But nearly 20 per cent of the Canadians surveyed said they had resigned to not vote this year and refused to share their choice for Canada’s next prime minister, or said they are undecided.

There appears to be generational and gender divides when it comes to party support.

Support for Liberals was highest among women at 33 per cent, while men tended to favour the Conservatives at 37 per cent. Canadians aged 55 and up said they were more likely to lean Conservative, while respondents between the ages of 35 and 54 said they were most likely to support the Liberals. Canadians aged 18-34 said they were most likely to support the NDP.
There is also a tight race among provinces.

In Ontario, the Liberals are polling just four points ahead of Conservatives, at 33 per cent. B.C. respondents leaned Conservative, garnering the party 34 per cent of the vote in the province to the Liberals’ 26 per cent. Meanwhile in Quebec, the Liberals were at a statistical tie with the Bloc Quebecois.

COMMENT:  I make no claim that what happens in Canada will happen here, but it would be encouraging to have a conservative government to our north, especially after President Biden knifed Canada in the back by canceling the Keystone Pipeline on his first day in office.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: 

ANOTHER GOOD SIGN – FROM BREITBART:   The Draft Kendall Qualls for Governor Committee has created a petition that seeks to encourage the leader of black conservative movement TakeCharge Minnesota to run for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.  The committee states on its website:  "As the Republican party searches for its gubernatorial candidate, Kendall Qualls is exactly the type of candidate we need – A different type of candidate who can inspire Minnesotans. Simply put, Kendall is uniquely positioned to be able to run and win. His background and exceptional skills would allow him to connect with voters across the state – From Warroad to Winona, across the Iron Range to our agricultural communities and even in the heart of the Twin Cities where he outperformed the rest of the Republican ticket in his run in 2020, Kendall would be an outstanding candidate we would be fortunate to have represent our party."  Qualls founded and leads an anti-woke black movement centered on faith, family, education, and the Constitution to counter the current culture of Critical Race Theory, Black Lives Matter, and fatherless black families.  The WOKE movement thought it had the field to itself.  Increasingly, we see resistance.  These are the real revolutionaries, not the party liners of woke-ism.  We'll cheer them on.

THIS JUST DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT – FROM THE HILL:   New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) has been holding private talks with advisers and supporters about the possibility of a gubernatorial run, CNBC reported.  James, who led the investigation into sexual harassment claims against former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), has been looking into whether she would have the backing of previous donors and supporters if she were to enter the 2022 New York governor's race, according to CNBC.  Luis Miranda Jr., a political consultant and father of Lin Manuel-Miranda, has been one of the people working to gauge interest in a potential James run, CNBC reported. Miranda previously served as a lead consultant for James when she successfully ran for New York City public advocate.  The appearances are awful.  She led the probe into one governor, and, having brought him down, now may try to get his job.  Kathleen Hochul, who succeeded Andrew Cuomo, is a Democrat.  So is Letitia James, so James would have to primary an incumbent governor of her own party.  On what basis?  The whole thing is rotten.

WE HAVE SURVIVED! – OVERNIGHT:  And what a miracle.  Why, today was supposed to be the end of the United States, with ramifications extending to Mars.  This was the day when hordes of right-wing fanatics and fascist sympathizers were to descend on Washington to celebrate the events of January 6th.   As we've pointed out, what was expected was a disaster of Biblical proportions.   Uh, maybe you haven't heard too much about it on the news today.  And there are reasons.  From NBC News:

WASHINGTON — A small, peaceful crowd gathered Saturday in Washington to protest what the organizers say is the unfair treatment of people charged in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.
The rally ended less than 90 minutes after it began around noon in Union Square, a small park just west, and in clear view, of the Capitol.

Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee said that the crowd was “about what we expected” and that the stepped-up police presence may have kept numbers lower. “I’m hopeful that had some impact on it,” he said in an interview before the rally.

In the afternoon, the U.S. Capitol Police estimated that, excluding law enforcement, 400 to 450 people were inside the protest area.

Oh, the masses.  Oh, the masses.

Matt Braynard, executive director of Look Ahead America and the organizer of the event, wrote on Twitter that he expected "a 100 percent peaceful event in support of the nonviolent offenders...who have been charged.”

Speaking to the crowd Saturday, Braynard said, "This isn't about President Trump or Biden or your political party. It's about human rights and civil rights."

More than 600 people have been arrested in the eight-plus months since the Jan. 6 attack, more than 50 of whom have pleaded guilty to a variety of federal crimes. Six have been found guilty in court, according to the Justice Department.

They'll have to open up a whole new Alcatraz.

Lori Smith, 58, a paralegal from the Atlanta area, was among the group attending the rally. She said she opposed the storming of the Capitol but believes some of the people charged are political prisoners and that the officer who shot Ashli Babbitt should be tried like Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis officer who was convicted of murdering George Floyd in police custody.

The officer who shot Babbitt has been cleared of wrongdoing by the Justice Department and Capitol Police.

COMMENT:  Whew!  That was close.  I hate to see CNN and The New York Times disappointed, but there was no attempt to overthrow the government, although the actions of one cocker spaniel at the scene were deemed suspicious by highly trained insurrection experts.  We will be reporting on that, and the investigation by the Canine Terror Squad.
